Phil's Visit and Lots of Nice Food (Again!)

We have added more photos to the previous blog: Tomahawk, El Questro & Bungle Bungles

We have also added a link to Steve's YouTube on the Links page.

Phil arrived late on Friday 6th July for a one week assignment for the BBC. She will be writing an article on the the dark side of the mining boom, the impact of 'Fly in Fly out' workers and the pearl industry. We will post a link when this is published, so get clicking on her link so that the story becomes popular!

We spent Saturday afternoon pottering about in Fremantle and popped into the Monk for a drink and a  catch up with Phil. That evening we went to a restaurant called 'Unravelled' in Mosman Park. They make their own fresh pasta onsite and it was very tasty!

Sunday 8th July, Steve started showing symptoms of the lurgy that Rupan had been infected with the previous week. He felt very poorly and of course the virus had mutated and was more aggressive. Rupan and Phil left Steve in bed with a Lemsip and went for a drive, they ended up at Zepher's on the river for a coffee where they watched the dolphins. Sunday afternoon Phil flew up to Port Headland to begin her assignment.

Phil returned late on Thursday from Broome and completed the final interviews in Perth on Friday, Steve had recovered from the "Rupan Lurgy" and Rupan had had a busy week too so it was time for cocktails. A couple of weeks earlier Steve had found a place that made great hot dogs in South Fremantle called Run Amok so we started the evening with a special "4th July Chilli Dog" before moving onto a new bar called "Who's Your Mumma". We had several cocktails before finishing the evening at Clancy's for a beer night cap.

Saturday we drove up to John Forest National Park in the Perth Hills. We entered the park through the scenic drive with amazing views of Perth, before parking up for a picnic lunch. We then set off into the bush. We walked to the National Park Falls and then followed the Eagle walk trail along Jane Brook. We crossed the brook and scrambled up a slope to the John Forrest heritage trail and made our way to Hovea Falls before returning to Bluey.

Saturday night, Rupan and Steve had an invitation to Opus to celebrate Zenia passing her exams. Phil was planning to spend the evening in front of the TV with a Flipside Burger and a bottle of wine. The food at Opus was okay, we had the six course degastation menu but I think we would have preferred a Flipside burger.

Phil left early for the airport on Sunday, for her flight back to Singapore. Rupan and Steve headed into Perth for lunch at Big Bowl Noodle House in Northbridge, which was recommended as it makes it's own noodles.

After a tasty lunch we had planned to go the Picasso to Warhol exhibition at The Art Gallery of Western Australia but tickets were $47 each. Will wait for the $19 special offer later in the month. Time to instigate plan B. We headed over to The Belgium Beer Cafe as it was Stein Sunday! Rupan could not finish her stein so Steve had to step in!

We then headed back into North Freo on the train. We stopped in at Mrs Browns and had a beer. Whilst we sat drinking our beer the burger orders from Flipside were passing through the bar. We had very little will power, the temptation was too much. We order a burger and washed it down with a bottle of Barossa Valley red wine - yummy!
